Revelation 4 and 5 is a picture of what is going on in Heaven right now! We want to join in with the Throne Room of Heaven. Continued worship, music (the harp Rev. 5), and intercession (bowl Rev. 5). This is what IHOP desires to bring here on earth. Like Jesus prayed “on earth as it is in heaven.”
I want to try and give further nefinition to what we are doing in Kansas City. I am gaining more understanding of God’s purpose for a House of Prayer. I still don’t fully comprehend, much less have language, for the magnitude and importance of it. However, let me with less than eloquent language explain. In the Old Testament priests worshipped and ministered to God. They also interceded for His people. David even set up a tabernacle with 24/7 worship and prayer. He paid musicians and singers to minister to the Lord. In the New Testament, He has given us direct access to the Father through Jesus’ sacrifice. We are all now kings and priests before Him. I believe the western church, and especially myself have gotten the First and Second commandment inverted in their proper order. We have good intentions and try earnestly to fulfill the Second Commandment/ Great Commision . However, in our performance mentality, we have forgotten the First Commandment. We will try many things, but we will not pray, save a token 5-10 minute prayer before a service. Jesus said His house will be a house of prayer. Unfortunately there is little room for prayer in a service. We need to be entertained, and out by noon to catch the football game. (when I say we, I mean me!!!) We need enjoyable prayer!
